ARTHUR BREASLEY
1914 - 1940

Arthur Breasley was born in Wagga Wagga, NSW in 1914. He started his outstanding career as a jockey at age of 12 years and rode his first Melbourne winner in 1928.
Arthur Breasley had great talent and he received his nickname "Scobie" from the famous horse trainer James Scobie. His achievements include 3,251 winners, four English Jockey Premierships and an impressive career in England.
In 1968 Arthur Breasley rode his last race. For a while he worked as a race horse trainer before returning to Melbourne for his retirement.
In 1996 Racing Victoria immortalized Arthur Breasley by creating the Scobie Breasley Medal which is awarded each year to Victoria’s most outstanding jockey.
