EDGAR BRITT

Edgar Britt's father was a regular race goer at Moorefield taking his son along to race meetings. He got a pony at the of 12 and started to ride track work at 13 years of age.
Later Edgar Britt became an apprentice jockey to trainer Mick Polson. In 1933 they visited the United States where Britt won the Baltimore Handicap on Winooka. Back in Australia he won the 1934 Sydney Cup.
Edgar Britt accepted an offer to ride in India where he rode for various Maharajas for ten years, heading the Jockey Premierships eight times and winning every race of importance. In 1945 the Maharaja of Baroda invited Britt to ride in England. In 1947 he won his first English Classic on Sayajitao at the St Leger. During the 14 years Edgar Britt spent in England he won about 1200 races including seven English Classics and the Irish Derby.
After a successful career in several counties he retired in 1959. In 2004 at the age 90 years Edgar Britt was inducted in the Racing Hall of Fame.
