Some organisations and individuals may use information obtained from our website for fraudulent purposes. It is important to be alert to the fact that there will always be dishonest people using the Internet to achieve personal gain through fraudulent activities.
A common practice is to give the seller of horses or horse products a sense of trust and an impression of large financial gain from a particular sale. Those emails usually come from foreign countries (Nigeria, Africa, China, Philippines, London and others), are often written in bad English with misspellings and/or represent a third party or client.
Please be aware of a current scam where people from overseas are trying to collect seller’s bank account and credit card details by offering sums for horses or items which seem too good to be true.
In another common scam a third party supposedly acting on behalf of a buyer tries to purchase horses or items by sending a cashier cheque with a larger sum than the actual purchase price and then asking the seller to refund the difference. Unfortunately this cheque is a counterfeit.
To protect yourself and others from falling victim to this or a similar scam it is important to try obtaining as much information as possible about a buyer.
If you receive suspicious emails, are unsure of any payment transactions or are the target of fraud please avoid further contact with these persons and alert Horse Directory Australia and possibly the authorities.
For further information you may also like to visit the website of the Australian Federal Police or Australian Securites and Investments Commission.
Horse Directory Australia is not involved in and does not condone such activities in any way. We trust that these uncontrollable incidents do not affect your use of our services.
Thank you for using Horse Directory Australia.
